Late salary is not a private matter between you and a manager. Wages in Bahrain are paid through the banking system and monitored, which means there is usually a record of what was and was not paid. That record is your strongest asset, so protect it before you do anything else.

Step one — gather evidence, quietly

  • Your signed contract and any offer letter or annexes.
  • Every payslip you have, and bank statements showing the dates money actually arrived.
  • Messages where pay was promised, delayed or discussed.
  • Your CPR, passport copy and permit details.
  • A dated note of the months owed and the amount for each.

Step two — ask in writing

One clear message: the months outstanding, the amount, and a request for a payment date. Polite and factual. Many cases are resolved here, and if they are not, you now have a written record that you asked and when.

Step three — the labour complaint

  1. 1File an individual complaint

    Submit a labour complaint to the Ministry of Labour with your contract, payslips and bank records attached.

  2. 2Attend the settlement meeting

    The Ministry attempts a settlement between you and the employer first. Bring originals and a written summary of the months owed.

  3. 3Escalate if unresolved

    If no settlement is reached, the matter can be referred onward to the labour case process.

  4. 4Keep working unless advised otherwise

    Do not abandon the job on your own initiative before taking advice — leaving without following the process can affect your permit position.

Things that make it worse

  • Paying an agent or 'fixer' who promises to recover the money. This is not how the process works.
  • Signing a receipt or clearance form for money you did not receive.
  • Handing over your passport. Withholding an employee's passport is not permitted.
