Planning Engineer

Job Summary We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Planning & Project Controls Engineer with a comprehensive background in construction projects to take responsibility for managing project planning, scheduling, progress monitoring, reporting, and overall project controls activities. The successful candidate will have practical, hands-on expertise in utilizing Primavera P6 software, developing construction schedules, conducting critical path analyses, tracking project progress, and implementing recovery planning when necessary. Key Responsibilities Develop, maintain, and regularly update detailed construction project schedules using Primavera P6 software to ensure all timelines are accurately reflected. Prepare comprehensive baseline programs, establish Work Breakdown Structures (WBS), produce look-ahead schedules, and formulate recovery programs as required to manage project timelines effectively. Closely monitor the actual site progress compared to approved project schedules, identifying any delays or potential risks that may impact the schedule. Track key project milestones, critical activities, resource allocations, and overall schedule performance to ensure alignment with project goals. Prepare and deliver weekly and monthly progress reports, including S-curves, manpower histograms, and detailed project dashboards that provide clear insights into current project status. Coordinate and communicate regularly with Project Managers, Site Engineers, subcontractors, consultants, and procurement teams to ensure that all project activities proceed as scheduled. Perform critical path analyses on project schedules and recommend corrective measures to address any schedule delays or issues detected. Assist in conducting delay analyses, preparing Extension of Time (EOT) documentation, and developing recovery schedules to mitigate impacts on project delivery. Monitor subcontractor programs meticulously and assess their progress relative to approved schedules, ensuring subcontractors maintain acceptable performance levels. Provide support for project forecasting efforts, resource planning, and productivity monitoring to facilitate efficient allocation of manpower and materials. Maintain accurate, up-to-date planning records, progress updates, detailed reports, and all necessary project documentation to support project control activities. Participate actively in progress meetings and coordination sessions, providing clear and concise updates on project performance metrics and any potential scheduling concerns. Identify project risks, constraints, and possible delays proactively, and recommend practical, actionable solutions to keep the project on track. Requirements A Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a closely related field is essential. A minimum of three to five years’ experience in construction planning and project controls, with a strong focus on building and civil construction projects. Demonstrated expertise in Primavera P6 is required; familiarity with MS Project is also considered an advantage. Thorough knowledge and understanding of Work Breakdown Structures (WBS), baseline schedules, critical path method (CPM), float management, construction sequencing, and progress measurement methodologies. Preferred experience includes conducting delay analyses, recovery planning, and preparing Extension of Time (EOT) documentation. Proficient skills in MS Excel and the broader Microsoft Office suite are necessary. Ability to interpret and understand construction drawings, Bills of Quantities (BOQs), technical specifications, and detailed project requirements is critical. Strong analytical capabilities, excellent organizational skills, effective communication, and comprehensive reporting skills are mandatory. Previous work experience within the GCC construction market is required, with prior experience in Bahrain being highly preferred. Applicants must currently be available within Bahrain. Preference will be given to candidates who can join immediately or with a short notice period. Candidates holding a cancelled or transferable visa or having valid local status in Bahrain will be highly considered.
